Del Sur Educational Foundation Purchases 20 Laptops for School

Through the generosity of many parents and friends, the Del Sur Educational Foundation has purchased 20 new laptops for Del Sur Elementary School.

The 20 new ThinkPads were completely funded by the Foundation, and arrived at the school this month.

“We cannot thank the parents and supporters of the Foundation enough,” said Doug Johnson, principal of Del Sur Elementary School. “These laptops will be a tremendous tool for all of the kids here at Del Sur.”

Casino Night at the Ranch, the largest fundraiser for the Foundation, had a lot to do with this purchase.

“Last year’s Casino Night raised more than $50,000, enabling us to purchase the laptops and support other initiatives like hiring impact teachers,” said Shelley Federhart, president of the Foundation. “We look forward to another successful Casino Night and are eager to continue funding initiatives like this.”

Casino Night at the Ranch 2012 will take place Saturday, March 17 at the Del Sur Ranch House. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit http://delsurfoundation.org/.

Del Sur Elementary School is located within the master-planned community of Del Sur. To learn more about the community, visit http://www.delsurliving.com/.

Del Sur Starts Year Strong, Sells 20 Homes in Two Months

Del Sur started the year strong by selling 20 homes in eight weeks. In January and February combined, Del Sur sold more homes than any other new home community in the SR-56 corridor region. Del Sur builders California West Communities, Davidson Communities, Shea Homes and Standard Pacific Homes all welcomed new residents to their neighborhoods.

“January was a strong month for home sales throughout San Diego, and we’re happy to say this carried into February at Del Sur,” said Bill Ostrem, president and CEO of Black Mountain Ranch LLC, developer of Del Sur. “I’m asked daily if I think consumer confidence is restored. I’m not convinced it’s totally back, but I am seeing an uptick in interest and conversions at Del Sur.”

Beyond offering home shoppers many distinct neighborhoods to choose from, Del Sur is equipped with six neighborhood parks, five with year-round swimming pools heated with solar panels. The North San Diego neighborhood also offers 18 miles of shared trails accessible by Del Sur residents; three school sites; and future commercial, retail, office and employment space. Area schools Del Sur Elementary School and Del Norte High School have both been named No. 1 schools in the Poway Unified School District.

Located in the coastal hills of San Diego – between interstates 5 and 15 and just north of SR-56 – the North County community has seven new home neighborhoods now selling. Prices range from the high $400,000s to $1 million. Five model complexes – featuring attached, detached, single-level and multi-story floor plans– are open for tours.

Del Sur Educational Foundation To Host Casino Night March 17

The Del Sur Educational Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising additional funds for Del Sur Elementary School, will host its third annual Casino Night at the Ranch fundraiser from 5-10 p.m. Saturday, March 17.

The Platinum LEED-rated Del Sur Ranch House will be transformed into a St. Patrick’s Day-themed casino, featuring gaming, dining, dancing and a live and silent auction. The Del Sur Ranch House is located at 15455 Paseo Del Sur, San Diego, CA, 92127.

Also taking place this year will be “Gambling with Principal Doug” as well as a “Date With a Teacher” auction, where students could win an outing with a teacher, such as going to a Padres game.

“This event is a ton of fun and supports our students and the wonderful curriculum at Del Sur Elementary,” said Shelley Federhart, president of the Foundation. “Last year’s inaugural event raised $54,000 and allowed us to not only support the art and music programs, but also purchase 20 laptop computers for the school.”

Tickets start at $45, with options to buy advanced ticket packages, reserve gaming tables, and more. Tickets can be purchased at www.delsurfoundation.org.

Also, to ease babysitting needs, Del Sur builder California West Communities has sponsored “Kids Night Out.” The childcare service will be hosted at Del Sur Elementary during the night of the event, and offer a variety of fun activities for participants. The childcare option is $10. Additional details are available at www.delsurfoundation.org.

Casino Night at the Ranch is sponsored in part by Black Mountain Ranch, LLC. For more information on the neighborhoods at Del Sur, visit www.DelSurLiving.com. Businesses RCA, ShowTec, Guestlist App and OneHope Wine are also supporting the event.

In order to contribute additional funding to key school programs, parents and community volunteers launched the Del Sur Educational Foundation in 2009. In addition to its annual Casino Night, the Foundation plans to host its annual golf tournament at the Rancho Bernardo Inn this October. Valentine’s Day Craft Ideas from Del Sur

With Valentine’s Day less than a week away, we thought it might be a good time to whip out the hot glue gun and glittery hearts. Who better to get Valentine’s Day craft ideas from than Martha Stewart? We’ve turned to her website for a variety of heartfelt ideas. Here are a few of our favorites:

Craft for kids: Thumbtack Valentine’s Frames

Cut two pieces of corrugated cardboard slightly larger than artwork; glue together to make a thick frame that tacks won’t poke through. Attach drawing with map tacks or pushpins; hang with a binder clip.

Craft to share with someone special: Candle Blocks

Start with a single 4-by-4-inch cedar post from a lumberyard or home center; cut it into 4-inch cubes. With an electric drill, make holes in the center of each side. Use a drill guide to bore a perpendicular hole, which will enable candles to stand straight and burn evenly. Bit sizes shown are gauged to standard candle thicknesses. Top to bottom: 7/8-inch bit for a hand-dipped taper; 9/32-inch for a stick taper; 1 1/8- to 1 1/2-inch Forstner bit for tealights and large tapers (sizes vary slightly); 3/4-inch spade bit for a Shabbat candle; 15/32-inch bit for a Christmas-tree candle.

Craft to brighten up the house: Conversation Piece

A valentine of any age will enjoy the fun messages that this arrangement delivers.

Not so crafty?

For those of you without Martha’s crafty touch, don’t fret. El Take it Easy will host a Valentine’s Day bizarre on Feb. 10 with unconventional valentines (and anti-valentines). Learn more here: Unique gifts and crafts featured at unconventional Valentine’s Day bazaar.
