Room 137: What You Should Know About Del Sur Elementary School

Please welcome Room 137, Del Sur Elementary School’s only second and third grade classroom, to the Del Sur blog! What better way to learn about Del Sur’s local elementary school than from the students themselves?!

“We are motivated by compliments, praise and our marble jar (when our jar fills up, we’re off to a lovely Del Sur park for a picnic),” they say. “Our digital footprints may be small, but our steps are mighty. We are excited to share our thoughts with you.”

The authors, readers, creators and digital natives in Room 137 eagerly responded to our first question, “What should people know about Del Sur Elementary?” Below are the responses and bios of four students. Enjoy!

1) Olivia B.

Hi my name is Olivia B. My favorite color is red sunset. I am eight years old and I love dogs. All of my thoughts are nice and optimistic.

The Del Sur school is in a safe community. We have ways to keep ourselves healthy. We have a running club where we run around a track, and each lap is a quarter mile. We have an art teacher and a music teacher who come on Wednesdays. We have fundraisers to raise money for our school. We have parent volunteers who help our classes. We have a wonderful principal, who does principal’s reading challenges, and that is with AR quiz points. We have learning websites, such as Lexia and Compass Learning. We are a great school.

2) Bede M.

Hi my name is Bede M. and I love to have sleepovers. My favorite colors are turqouse-blue and green. I have an older brother named Jack, a mom, a dad, an au pair named Sassa and two cute and loving cats named Lovey and Dovey.

Del Sur is a school full of community and respect. We have wonderful art teachers, music teachers and many volunteers. We also have Compass Learning, Edmodo, Lexia and many more teriffic learning websites. Our school loves reading. We have principal reading challenges and are in the midst of one right now. We have a great principal who encourages us to respect the world and learn. We also have computers galore. We have a computer lab, and little laptops in kindergarden classes and out in the hallways. I think Del Sur Elementary is a great school.

3) Alex H.

I go by Alex Hu.  My favorite color is blue. My second favorite color is green.

People should know that Del Sur has over 500 students. They can also learn that we have principal’s reading challenge and running club. We care about everything and everyone in the world!!!!!!! We have a library in the classroom. We have another BIG library, too. We also have field day in June. We also have laptops. Our school is an indoor school. Indoor schools are usally in Indiana.

4) Josh D.

My name is Josh D.  I am in the best class.  I like my school, I like my teacher, I like reading.

We have a nice school. Del Sur has a library with a super nice librarian. She loves books. The libary has lots of chapter books, like Harry Potter and The Hobbit.

Del Sur Top Selling Community for First Quarter

Mandolin by Shea Homes at Del Sur.

Mandolin by Shea Homes at Del Sur.

San Diego master-planned community Del Sur sold 35 homes in the first quarter of 2012. In these 12 weeks, Del Sur sold more homes than any other new home community in the SR-56 corridor region. Del Sur builders, including California West Communities, Davidson Communities, McCullough Design Development, Shea Homes and Standard Pacific Homes all recorded home sales.

“We’re selling an average of more than 10 homes per month which is right on target with what we expected,” said Bill Ostrem, president and CEO of Black Mountain Ranch LLC, developer of Del Sur.

Located in the coastal hills of San Diego, Del Sur offers home shoppers seven different neighborhoods to choose from, with floor plans ranging from 1,643 to more than 4,000 square feet.

Residents at Del Sur have access to six neighborhood parks, five with year-round swimming pools heated with solar panels; 18 miles of shared trails; three school sites; and future commercial, retail, office and employment space. Area schools Del Sur Elementary School and Del Norte High School are both top-rated schools within the Poway Unified School District.

“When a buyer visits Del Sur, they are finding little reason to turn away,” added Ostrem. “Beyond the homes, schools and amenities, Del Sur’s sense of community is very apparent to buyers.”

The family-abundant community has at least one event each month for residents, including the recent Del Sur Snow Day and Del Sur Food Truck Tasting, which both had more than 700 attendees. Outside of events, residents are active with the area schools, and have also formed interest groups within the community.

Situated between interstates 5 and 15 and just north of SR-56, the North County community has seven new home neighborhoods now selling. Prices range from the high $400,000s to more than $1 million. Six model complexes – featuring attached, detached, single-level and multi-story floor plans– are open for tours.
