Getting to Know Your Neighbors Over Wine and Chocolate

When searching for a new home, wine and chocolate may not be the first thing to cross your mind. You’re busy organizing your home search, identifying schools, looking up zip codes, and eventually packing boxes. Months later, you’ve arrived at your new home and just when you think you’ve settled in, you realize it’s time to meet your neighbors.

Over the last couple of years, new home community Del Sur has planned more than 12 community-wide events per year through its Community Services Council.

On Feb. 23, adult-only residents were invited to a wine and chocolate pairing at the community’s eco-friendly information center and event hub, The Ranch House. The event featured an adventurous selection of chocolate and wine, a mac ‘n’ cheese bar, and live music from Main Street Swing Band.

“Events like the wine and chocolate pairing enable adult residents to catch up with their neighbors and meet new ones, too,” said Lisa Sanders, marketing manager at Del Sur. “They are a nice addition to our calendar of family events, which range from Snow Day to the Del Sur Fall Festival.”

Del Sur’s next event is a Spring Circus, which will include acrobats, an Easter egg hunt, food trucks and more. The next adult event will be a Cinco de Mayo fiesta.

Beyond events, residents at Del Sur have access to six neighborhood parks, five with year-round swimming pools heated with solar panels; 18 miles of shared trails; three school sites; and future commercial, retail, office and employment space. Area schools Del Sur Elementary School and Del Norte High School are both top-performing schools within Poway Unified School District (PUSD). Soon, the community will break ground on another PUSD school serving students in grades K-8.

Located in the coastal hills of San Diego – between interstates 5 and 15 and just north of SR-56 – the community has four new home neighborhoods now selling. Prices range from the high $400,000s to more than $1 million. Del Sur Transforms Into Winter Wonderland for Annual Snow Day Event

Last weekend, more than 1,000 residents gathered for Del Sur’s third annual Snow Day. Snow Day is one of many events hosted each year by the new-home community located above Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego.

Organized by the Del Sur Community Services Council, this year’s Snow Day event took place at Haaland Glen Park, one of six parks located within the master-planned community. Event festivities included sledding, a snowman-building station, hot cocoa bar and food truck tasting, winter-themed crafts and more.

“Watching the kids light up with excitement and curiosity is what makes it such a wonderful event,” said Lisa Sanders, sales and marketing manager for Del Sur. “On top of that, events like Snow Day enable residents to meet their neighbors and build friendships that strengthen our community and make it the magnificent place that it is.”

Later this month, residents will enjoy an adult-only Wine Tasting event at the community’s iconic, Platinum LEED-rated Ranch House. In March, families will gather for an annual Spring Circus, with acrobats, an Easter egg hunt, food truck sampling and more.

Del Sur Reports Strong Sales During Winter Months

After starting development on 98 new homes in November, San Diego master-planned community Del Sur is reporting an uptick in sales. November-to-date, 50 new families have purchased a home at the community located in the coastal hills above Rancho Santa Fe.

“Traditionally, home shoppers nationwide will hold off near the holidays and resume their search for a new home in February,” said Bill Ostrem, president and CEO of Black Mountain Ranch LLC, developer of Del Sur. “But that isn’t the case this year. With nationwide inventory at its lowest point since 2007, the response from shoppers at Del Sur has been to buy now and buy new.”

Contributing to the community’s recent success is California West Communities. In November, the builder started development on 42 new homes at Valencia at Del Sur. To date, they’ve released and sold 21 of these homes, reaching the 50-percent-sold-out mark in less than three months.

Robert Thorne, CEO of California West Communities, feels the energy.

“For the first time in two years, we’ve been selling out of phase releases as soon as pricing is released,” Thorne said. “Serious homebuyers are joining the interest lists, prequalifying and prepared to purchase their select home sites as soon as they are available. Great quality product, incomparable value and a Del Sur address make these homes extremely attractive to those ready to buy now.”

Valencia offers three floor plans ranging from 2,996 to 3,495 square feet with up to six bedrooms and five baths. The detached homes feature gourmet kitchens and great rooms, Del Sur Room outdoor living spaces, generously sized second-floor bonus rooms and more. Homes are priced from the mid $700,000s.

Other quickly selling communities at Del Sur include Standard Pacific Homes’ detached homes at Carleton and Presidio priced from the high $700,000s; Shea Homes’ town homes at Mandolin priced from the mid $400,000s; and semi-custom homes at Gables Crossing at Del Sur by McCullough Design Development.

Shoes Needed! Del Norte Hosting Shoe Drive at Del Sur Ranch House Thru Feb. 2

It’s soon going to be time for spring cleaning, a time to let go of the old and make space for the new! Well, we know letting go is not always easy, but what if we had something that’d make you feel good about it?

Del Norte High School Music Boosters Club is hosting a shoe/clothing drive in collaboration with Shoes With Heart.

Shoes With Heart collects shoes and other clothing-related items by the pound. In return, Del Norte is paid by the pound, with funds supporting various music programs.

Here’s how it works:

  • With Shoes With Heart’s win-win recycling program, organizations pay no money out of pocket to raise funds while providing developing nations access to these much needed items.
  • The shoes and clothing are recycled and reused, which helps keep the earth green.

What can you donate?

Shoes, clothes, linens, purses and books. Psst! Boosters gets more money per pound for shoes, so the more shoes, the better!

How will the funds be used?

Funds will support the Del Norte High School band, orchestra, color guard, marching band and drumline. Funds will purchase items such as instruments, uniforms and trips for aspiring musicians in our community.

How can I donate?

There is a bin right in your backyard!

Del Sur Ranch House, 15455 Paseo Del Sur, San Diego, CA 92127

When’s the deadline?

There isn’t much time left. Saturday Feb. 2, 2013 is the last day to participate. So hurry, help support our budding musicians!
