Del Sur promotes Kurt Bruskotter to Assistant Vice President
SAN DIEGO (June 4, 2009) – As new-home construction continues at Del Sur (www.delsurliving.com), so, too, does the commitment to sustainability and green building, according to Fred Maas, president of Black Mountain Ranch LLC, developers of the smart-growth master-planned community in the northern part of the City of San Diego.
Implementing the design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions necessary for ongoing sustainability at Del Sur is Kurt Bruskotter, recently appointed to the position of Assistant Vice President. The licensed landscape architect has played a critical role in the development of Del Sur since 2005 and has recently achieved LEED Accredited Professional certification from the United States Green Building Council.
“Kurt has been key to many of the LEED-rated processes already in place and benefiting homeowners at Del Sur, including water conservation efforts and drought-resistant landscaping,” said Maas. Bruskotter was also lead landscape architect for the Del Sur Ranch House, which achieved LEED Platinum designation from USGBC.
Backed by 11 years of community development experience, Bruskotter came to Del Sur after five years as landscape architect with Wimmer Yamada and Caughey/Marum Associates, who designed Santaluz, Del Sur’s sister community at Black Mountain Ranch. Bruskotter also spent two years with Wadsworth Golf Construction in Phoenix. Wadsworth built the Rees Jones-designed championship golf course at The Santaluz Club.
The LEED AP certification achieved by Bruskotter is an internationally recognized certification system that measures how well a building or community performs in key metrics, including: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
Nationally recognized for its comprehensive sustainable design, construction, and living practices, Del Sur is a progressive and eco-friendly community that flawlessly blends its environmental commitment with architectural excellence. The master-planned community has set a benchmark for green-building practices by meeting and exceeding environmental requirements, and has become a leading example for sustainable communities.
The impact of Del Sur’s green practices are prevalent throughout the community. From its inception, Del Sur has set an example by implementing mandatory recycling and conservation requirements for builders. Construction waste has been recycled and reused in the community’s development whenever possible, allowing over 92 percent of waste to be diverted from the landfill. Water conservation efforts are also evident through the mandatory use of tankless water heaters, weather-based satellite irrigation systems, and drought-resistant landscaping. Del Sur requires at least 20 percent of homes to include solar energy systems with many neighborhoods incorporating solar power in up to 40 percent of homes. Upon completion, Del Sur will be one of the largest solar-powered communities in California.
Designed over nearly 20 years in consultation with a variety of environmental and civic groups, the 1,800-acre community of Del Sur is planned to eventually include 2,500 market-rate homes, 469 low-income homes, business and commercial space, a transit center, a fire station, two schools and more than 2,000 acres of dedicated open space shared with sister community Santaluz.
Del Sur’s Ranch House, certified as a Platinum LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) structure by the U.S. Green Building Council, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Call 858-481-4200 or visit www.delsurliving.com to learn more.
